The Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition (BBWC) needs you. Volunteers and your annual membership are how we get things done. BBWC welcomes new members and gratefully cheers loyal longtime members.

We are you!

During the past year your membership contributions and your volunteer efforts...

  • Created a new innovative "Natural Literacy" program in local schools to fulfill learning standards and help teachers educate about the outdoors.
  • Provided nature camp scholarships for local deserving children.
  • Funded and facilitated the hands-on, Salmon-in-Schools program at 11 local schools.
  • Offered outings, such as canoe/kayak trips, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, nature walks, earth skills, map and compass training.
  • Increased public awareness and educated about natural and invasive species, including a local field inventory o the Brown Tail Moth.
  • Continued to expand our community's skills in protecting the bay by growing edible perennials, decreasing soil erosion, and working together at Head of the Tide Permaculture Project.
  •  In collaboration with other organizations, created and maintained trails in the Belfast watershed, including Hills to Sea Trail and Little River Trail.
  • Organized and conducted the Penobscot Bay Stewards Program. With each graduating class giving 600 volunteer hours.
  • Pen Bay Steward volunteers organized the first annual coastal cleanup by boat, and supported the Ban the Bag effort in Belfast.
